Lightweight contender Andy Cruz takes on Omar Salcedo this month in a 10-round bout on a Matchroom card promoted by Eddie Hearn on January 25 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Chelsea Ballroom, Las Vegas. Super middleweight contender Diego Pacheco will face Steven Nelson in the main event.
“Diamond” Andy Cruz (4-0, 2 KOs) is being fast-tracked by Hearn due to his impressive lineage in Cuba. He won the Olympic gold medal in 2020 by defeating American fighter Keshawn Davis. This is Cruz's fourth victory over Davis, and it was easy.
Salcedo (20-1, 14 KO) is coming off a huge ninth-round knockout win over Chris Colbert on October 16 of last year. Colbert was once viewed as a future world champion and super featherweight star. His career has gone downhill in the last three years.
Cruz is ranked No. 4 in the WBA, No. 5 in the World Boxing Championships, and No. 6 in the IBF welterweight division. He should fight more often against better opposition to get a world title shot soon. None of the top guys want to fight Andy, which is understandable. This is what Hearn expected.
