Demetrius Andrade warns Canelo Alvarez to avoid his former victor, David Benavidez, after losing to him by sixth-round stoppage in 2023. Andrade believes Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) is too big and throws too many combinations for Canelo to beat. for him.

It is understandable why Demetrius would try to make Benavidez appear invincible as it would lessen the impact of his defeat against him. He suffered an ego blow in that fight, suffering the first loss of his career. So, he's trying to protect his ego by making Benavidez look like an elite talent when in reality he's not.

Benavidez's next opponent

We saw that in his fight against the 37-year-old Oleksandr Gvozdyk On June 15. Gvozdyk had recently come out of a four-year retirement and beat Benavidez, leaving all sorts of lumps on his face.

Canelo has not stated his desire to fight “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez, and the two fighters are now competing in different weight classes. Benavidez, 28, fights at light heavyweight and will challenge the WBA regular 175-pound champion. David Morrell On 33 days on February 1st at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

If Benavidez loses that fight by knockout, he could return to the 168-pound division if he can still make weight. It would be pointless for him to stay at 175 if Morell (11-0, 9 KOs) destroys him. Morel is as big as Benavidez but is faster, hits harder, younger, and has better technical skills.

There's a good chance Morell wins that fight and permanently takes care of Canelo's problem, not that he needs help. Andrade, 36, may admire Benavidez's offensive skills, but he is not a knockout player. He couldn't even stop Caleb Plant.

The only reason Andrade was stopped was his size and youth advantage. He was 26 years old when he defeated Demetrius last year on November 25.

Don't do it!

“I don't think Canelo will beat David (Benavidez). I don't blame him for not fighting David. Canelo, stay away from David. Don't do it,” Demetrius Andrade said. Combat Center TV. “I'm taller and taller than Canelo. I don't know if Canelo (can beat Benavidez). That's a big boy.

“You have to have the right skill set, movement, IQ and sharpness to beat David and unless David fights the second-oldest guy at 175, it's a different story. But at 168, that's what it has to be to beat him.

“Canelo is smaller than me, and I was able to push David a few rounds and do what I had to do no matter what. But this weight and his height, and he knows how to throw punches in combinations, it will be a difficult task for Canelo.

“David's not someone who's going to give up on you either. Canelo doesn't beat him,” Andrade said of his belief that Benavidez can't be beaten by Alvarez.

Canelo was going to fight Benavidez by now, but he's been talking a lot of trash and looking needy. The way Benavidez seemed to focus on Alvarez is creepy, almost like a stalker. For any popular fighter to seem so obsessed with the way Benavidez looked, they would ignore him as well.
