There are plenty of post-apocalyptic movies out there, but most of them share the same problem: in the end, you'll feel just as miserable as the characters on screen. Too many directors think the key to the genre is simply to give us scene after scene of bleak despair, but what audiences really want is a film that uses a fictional future apocalypse as a lens to help us understand the present day. And if you're ready for the kind of post-apocalyptic movie full of crunchy philosophical questions and killer action sequences, it's time to watch Tom Cruise's movie Forgetting on Netflix.
The plot and actors are forgettable
In the world of the future ForgettingThe Earth is uninhabitable. We follow the adventures of the last two people on the planet as they explore post-apocalyptic wastelands while trying to stay one step ahead of violent and mysterious excavations. After a NASA astronaut crashes on the planet, a wild story of technology, cloning, and identity begins that connects past and future in a haunting and poignant way.
Action legend Tom Cruise is the main star Forgettingbut he was joined by some fairly big names, including Morgan Freemanwhose gentle authority lends the film a sense of vulnerability. The film also stars Olga Kurylenko (known to action fans for her role in the film James Bond film Amount of condolence) and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Melissa Leo. Finally, the talented cast includes Nikolai Coster-Waldau, who is still known for his amazing performances in the film game of thrones.
Audiences and critics are mixed
at the box office, Forgetting It earned a respectable $287.9 million against a budget of $120 million. These aren't exactly Marvel numbers, but the film's earnings are a reminder that there's still money to be made from smart, sensible sources. Science fiction Thriller movies. Unfortunately, modest box office success did not translate into critical acclaim.
on Rotten tomatoes, Forgetting It received a critical rating of 53 percent. Overall, critics felt that the story was relatively weak but was anchored by great production value and a standout performance from Cruise. The film also received a Popcornmeter rating of 61 percent, meaning it (barely) reached “fresh” territory with audiences if not critics.
Forgetting is worth your time
The film clearly didn't win a majority of critics, so why should you watch it? Forgetting today? For one thing, the story feels genuinely original, which helps the film easily stand out amidst some very crowded genres. Make no mistake, this is the movie you show to your friends who think there are no new sci-fi or post-apocalyptic stories to tell.
In addition, Forgetting It's one of those movies that will give you something to think about long after you turn off the TV and go to bed. On a science fiction scale, this is much more than that Star Trek of Star Wars when it comes to delivering an intelligent and introspective story. Admittedly, this makes it a terrible “turn your brain off” movie, but it's perfect to watch if you want something to think about even as you process one action sequence after another.
Speaking of which, this film's clever storyline doesn't stop it from delivering some killer action scenes, some of which even Cruise makes great Mission: impossible Shameful. These scenes are well spaced out as well. When you think you're in danger of locking down, you'll get some high-octane action to help get your attention. Given the aforementioned high production value, these scenes, like the rest of the film, are astonishingly good.
Will you find Forgetting As revolutionary and refreshing as it was, or do you want to turn it off and go watch Star Wars instead? Not even you will know Stream it on Netflix For yourself. Then, you may never look at anything from the moon to the man in the mirror the same way again.
