Ian Kersting, Assistant District Attorney for A.J Archdiocese of New OrleansPolice said he was found dead of an apparent suicide in his office.
The New Orleans Police Department confirmed that the 34-year-old was found with “apparent gunshot wounds” in his office. WVUE-DT. Police found his body at around 9pm on Saturday at the district prosecutor's office.
New Orleans EMS arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police confirmed to the outlet.

Kersting, 34, was admitted to the Louisiana bar in October 2020.

He was assigned to the District Attorney's Office as a sexual harassment case specialist and assigned to the District Attorney's Office Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (Sake). The initiative worked alongside the New Orleans Police Department by investigating and prosecuting sex crimes while using recovered DNA evidence.
Following his death, the New Orleans District Attorney's Office issued a statement mourning the loss of a “beloved member.” From the office.
“The Orleans District Attorney’s Office family experienced a terrible tragedy Saturday night,” the statement read. “Assistant District Attorney Ian Kersting was a beloved member of our office, and we send our love and deepest condolences to his family,” he added.
“It is important that we support each other now, and we ask the media to respect the privacy of affected individuals,” the statement said.
Kersting's death occurred just days after a terrorist attack rocked the city in the early hours of New Year's Day, killing 14 victims and wounding dozens.
Shams al-Din Jabbar, an Army veteran from Houston, plowed into a crowd of people with a rented Ford pickup truck. Bourbon Street Revelers in the attack, which officials say was inspired by the Islamic State.

The FBI recovered a black ISIS flag from the rental truck and found that Jabbar had pledged allegiance to ISIS in videos posted online hours before the attack.
