Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says Marcus Rashford is desperate to return.
Rashford, who missed United's last three matches, sparked speculation about his future at Old Trafford after an interview in which he expressed his desire for a “new challenge” after two decades playing with the club.
However, Amorim has since made it clear that Rashford wants to play but will not be included until he meets the required training criteria.
Amorim said during his press conference that the decision was in his hands alone.
He said: Yes, this is my decision. He wants to play. He's trying. It's my decision, my decision only.
“(There is) no situation. When I feel that this is the right moment, I will change something. Until then I will keep thinking about what is best for the team.
“I spoke to a lot of players individually during training, so I try to do things my way – which is the only way I know how.

“If I don't do this I will lose myself, and I won't lose myself. I know what I'm doing.
Despite Rashford's statements in the interview and the attention they received, Amorim denied the idea that the issue was affecting the team.
“No, I don't think so,” he added. “Not for me and not for the other players because everyone is there every day during training. They understand. That's the main point.
“I'm very focused and they know – I'm very clear in my message – everyone at Carrington knows what I'm talking about and what I want from Marcus and everyone.
“So it's not a distraction for us. Maybe it's the media, but that's not what I care about. As for the media and other people, I can't control that.”
When asked about his discussions with Rashford and what he expects from the striker in training, Amorim replied: “Like any other player, the best he can be.
“If you have great talent, great performance, great responsibility, great involvement, push everyone forward at this moment. Some players have a great responsibility here because they have been here for a long time.
“I talk to him every day, not about the interview but about the performance.”
Amorim acknowledged the current challenges facing the club, describing it as “one of the worst moments in our club.” So we have to face it and be strong in this moment. This is what I want for every player on the team.”
As Manchester United prepares for its Boxing Day match against Wolves, Amorim left the door open for Rashford's return but did not offer any guarantees.
The striker remains on the sidelines unless Amorim decides he is ready to join the team again.
