Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has called on his team-mates to “create our own history” as they bid for the Premier League title in their first season under manager Arne Slott.

The Reds currently sit at the top of the standings by six points, with a game in hand on second-placed Arsenal.

Alisson, who played a key role in Liverpool's 2019-20 Premier League win under Jurgen Klopp, spoke of the achievement that ended the club's 30-year title drought.

“This team was really special,” Allison said. “We have achieved great things. This was our first Premier League title for a long time.

“We (won) the Champions League together the previous season. There is no comparison.

“What makes me happy is this group of players – we have the quality to do something special. The most important thing is that the commitment required to win something is there.”

Alisson is one of nine players in the current squad who were also part of the title-winning 2019-20 season.

Other returning players include Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Andrew Robertson, Caoimhin Kelleher, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah.

However, Liverpool's squad has developed significantly since then, with new signings such as Ryan Grafenbrech, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis McAllister, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Jacobo adding new energy to the team.

Under Slott's guidance, the team also adopted a new tactical identity.

Alisson added: “I don't think it's very similar (to our style under Klopp).”

“There are still a few players playing in the team, but we have a slightly different style, more possession. Before it was really clear, there were a lot of turnovers and a lot of intensity.

Slott, who joined Liverpool from Feyenoord in the summer, has introduced a more possession-based style, moving slightly away from the high-intensity transitions that have characterized Klopp's tenure.

This new tactical framework helped Liverpool dominate matches and maintain their position at the top of the table.

The Reds now face an important test as they prepare for the visit of West Ham on Sunday, aiming to extend their current lead.

Given the progress the team has made, Alisson stressed the need to focus on writing their success story rather than making comparisons with previous teams.

“We don't have to compare ourselves to teams in the past,” Alisson said. “We have to make our own history this season, this group.”
