Tevin Farmer revealed today that he is in talks for a rematch with undefeated lightweight contender William Zepeda.

Former IBF super bantamweight champion Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) gets a second chance against Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) after losing to him via 10-round split decision on November 16 at the Latino Card Night in Riyadh. .

Farmer vs. Zepeda II

If it was a 12-rounder, Farmer could end up getting eliminated because he looked exhausted from the eighth round of hard body shots Zepeda was hitting him with in that fight.

The 34-year-old farmer looked exhausted and ready to stop. He stayed on his feet because Zepeda focused mostly on landing to the body due to the head movement Tevin was using. It was elusive, but he couldn't make Zepeda lose sight of the body. And here he lost the battle.

Farmer and some fans felt he had done enough to achieve victory in that fight. The judges scored it 95-94 for Farmer, 95-94 for Zepeda, and 95-94 for Farmer. Boxing News 24 scored it 9-1 in favor of Zepeda. It appears that the referees did not take Zepeda's body punches into account in their scoring. They were just focusing on headshots.

Farmer won the fourth with a quick knockdown scored from a left hand that sent Zepeda forward. But unlike the fourth round, Zepeda dominated each round with his powerful shots, pressure and physicality.

Zepeda-Farmer Punch Statistics

  • William Zepeda: 259 of 778 punches, 33.3%. Of the 259 shots fired by Zepeda, 90 were to the body.
  • Tevin Farmer: 193 of 589 punches, 32.9%. He fired 45 bullets into his body.

The rematch is seen as an ongoing battle for Zepeda to keep him ready to fight against the winner of the February 22 bout between WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield.

Zepeda likely would have fought Shakur next if he hadn't suffered a hand injury. That ruined his plans for a world title shot.
