More than 92,000 people signed a Change.org petition As of Sunday morning they are calling for the resignation of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass as wildfires continue to rage in the area.
The petition was started by a user called “Frustrated Californian” who accused Bass of “gross mismanagement” during the natural disaster crisis, even calling out her for not being in the country when the fires broke out.
Bass was under intense pressure for traveling abroad to Ghana last week, meaning she was thousands of miles away from her home city during the crisis. The first day of destruction Tuesday.
“Water supplies have been severely strained, billions of taxpayer dollars have been misallocated or left unaccounted for, and countless lives have been lost,” the petition reads.
Currently there is Five active wildfires In Los Angeles County – Palisades, Eaton, Kenneth, Hurst and Archer.
Bass has been active on social media since her return to the US, making her last post on X and Facebook on Saturday evening.
“Angelenos, we're still going through this, and for all of you who have experienced the loss, the grief, the anger, the absolute shock. I've seen the devastation. It's unbelievable the amount of loss. People have been through this, but we have to get through this,” she said in a one-minute video. “And I know we will do it.”
Before Bass received intense public attention for her response to the wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles, Bass was held in the highest regard by prominent figures in the Democratic Party.
President Biden once considered Bass a top vice presidential contender in 2020, while former President Barack Obama previously predicted she would be an “outstanding mayor” for the city.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, Patricia Heaton Jillian Michaels is among the celebrities who offer harsh criticism to government officials.
“This disaster did not come out of nowhere,” Aurora Culpo, host of the “Barely Filtered” podcast, told Fox News Digital. He added: “We were well aware of the possibility of a fire, and we had the willingness of a third world country in a place that pays some of the highest taxes in the world. Those in power must be forced to take responsibility and resign.”
