Newcastle United They enjoyed a 3-1 win over Brentford last night to qualify for the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Italian midfield maestro Sandro Tonali was in particularly strong form for Eddie Howe's side, scoring twice in the win at St James' Park, and was very close to scoring a hat-trick too!

Tonali did not have many opportunities to prove himself at Newcastle due to a betting ban imposed on him early last season, not long after joining Newcastle from Milan.

However, the 24-year-old is now back in the team and playing at a very high level, and clearly has the support of his team-mates.

See below as Gordon was very keen to see Tonali score a hat-trick in last night's match against Brentford…

Newcastle could be a Carabao Cup contender once again

Newcastle looked in good form to overcome a strong Brentford side, and players like Tonali and Gordon could certainly make this team contenders for the Carabao Cup this season.

NUFC notably reached the final of this competition in the 2022/23 season, losing to Manchester United on that occasion, but they will no doubt be desperate to pick up silverware, and they look good enough to do so.

It hasn't been the most consistent season for the Howes, but they have shown how good they are on their day, and a cup competition could suit them better than chasing a top-four finish in the Premier League.
