Several children were killed in a stampede at an amusement park in the southwestern Nigerian city of Ibadan, and several others were taken to hospital.
The exact number of victims is unclear.
The event was advertised as free entry and attracted a large crowd but so many people attended that there was a crush as they struggled to get in.
Residents said more than 5,000 children gathered at the venue and a stampede ensued when the main organizers arrived to start the event.
The sequence of events that led to the stampede has not been revealed.
The Oyo State government said the victims were taken to hospitals across Ibadan for treatment following the stampede that occurred at Basorun Islamic Secondary School.
She added that there was “loss of life and multiple injuries.”
Authorities urged parents who are concerned about their children's whereabouts to contact city hospitals.
