Although the issue dominated the pre-match discussion, Amorim's gamble paid off Like Bruno Fernandes Amad Diallo inspired a stunning late comeback to beat City 2-1.

Roy Keane believes it is time for Rashford to find a 'new challenge', with the England international struggling for consistency over the past season and a half. Kane even questioned Rashford's 'position'.

“It's a big call,” Kane said. “He obviously saw something he didn't like.

“But for those who have watched Manchester United recently, it's not a big surprise because both players were poor. 'Enough is enough,'” he said.

“It's a big call, but I'd love to see it — he ticks it off.”

However, Amorim doesn't see it that way, with the Portuguese coach saying that Manchester United need Rashford and Garnacho and they can regain their places through hard work in training.

“New week, new life, if they train well they will compete for a place in the team. They play because they are talented, and we need Rashford and Garnacho.

“Next week if they trained as well as others. It's the same for everyone. They will play or sit on the bench. It was not a disciplinary matter. We have to improve our standards on and off the field. It was a normal week.”
