Large crowds of protesters gathered outside the Georgian parliament to object to the appointment of a new president.

BBC correspondent Rehan Dimitri saw demonstrators kicking a ball after Mikheil Kavelashvili, the former Manchester City footballer turned ultra-conservative politician, was elected as the next president of Georgia.

The protests were sparked by the ruling Georgian Dream party's decision to suspend the country's EU accession talks until 2028. Hundreds of people were arrested across the country, and journalists were among those injured by security forces.
