Bill Haney says Devin will take a year off to rest his body and work on blocking the left hook before returning to the ring in 2025. Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KO) has been out of the ring for seven months since then. He lost to Ryan Garcia on April 20 and appears to be shaken by this defeat.
One year deadline
Former two-division world champion Haney's decision to take a full year off means he will wait until Kingery's one-year ban expires in April 2025 before fighting again. Devin's decision to stay and mourn his loss for an entire year, until Ryan becomes available, isn't exactly a brave one, but there's too much money at stake for him to put on the line.
However, this is an expected move because it is very dangerous for Hani to fight someone and potentially lose. Getting beaten would ruin a potential big cash rematch for Devin vs. Garcia. So, it's smart for Haney to sit back and wait for Ryan because anyone he faces will be swinging for the fences, looking to take advantage of Dave's weak chin.
If Hani was one of them Robber Barons of the Golden Age Like JP Morgan, or John D. Rockefeller, or Cornelius Vanderbilt, wasn't going to sit around for a year without staying as busy as possible, leveraging his popularity to make millions fighting the big men. Hani is not cruel Like wealthy robber barons, he lacks the courage and ambition to get every penny he can by being as busy as possible.
Playing safe?
“All fights are choices. I believe in Devin, I believe in his skills. I also believe in doing things right. I believe in compensating Major for the position he's in, getting the deal structure right. Bill Haney told Tru Media, speaking about his son, Devin Haney. “It's more about the structure of the deal than anything else.”
“The only thing we can do is let him rest his body. He's a young man. He's been traveling, he's been fighting, he's been doing it. There was a lot going on in the (Ryan Garcia) fight,” Bell said of Haney.
“He's the one who said he was going to take a year off, and I support his plan 100%. If he had said he wanted to come back in four months, I would have supported that too. He said he wanted to take a year off. He didn't say he was retiring. At that point Year, we have a chance to see everyone.
“We can be fans. We can follow this sport. One thing I said is they still want to see us. I appreciate you wanting to see us and follow me, brother,” Bill Haney said.
