Boise State Heisman Trophy hopeful Ashton Genty has captured the attention of college football fans this season for his stellar performance on the field, but on Friday, he got even more attention on social media for his clothing choice.

The Heisman Trophy finalist arrived in New York this weekend ahead of the highly anticipated 90th annual ceremony Saturday night. While doing press, fans on X discovered one major difference between Ginty and his colleague Heisman candidates.

Many on social media praised Ginty, who has also won support from fans for speaking out about his faith, for wearing an orange and blue tracksuit representing the Broncos.

When asked why he chose this uniform, Genty acknowledged that he would not be in this position today if it were not for Boise State.

“Reading the little Heisman booklet, they said they encouraged us to wear our gear.” He said Friday with laughter. “But regardless, I was going to wear it anyway, because I wouldn't be here without Boise State, and I just want to represent my school. I feel like this is important.”

Heisman hopeful Ashton Janty is signaling his faith after Boise State's Mountain West title playoff win

Jeanty is the first Heisman Trophy finalist since 2017. After an impressive season that saw him lead the country with 2,497 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns, Jeanty is among the top two candidates along with Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter.

But even with these accomplishments, Janney feels his place in New York goes beyond personal accomplishment.

“The running back position has been overlooked for a while now,” Genty said. “There have been a lot of great running backs before me that should have been here in New York, so I think continuing the legacy of the running back position is a great thing. … I feel as though I represent the whole position.”
