Valerie Bertinelli She feels prouder than ever after stripping off her underwear and uploading a mirror selfie to Instagram.
Bertinelli was a guest on “The Drew Barrymore ShowFriday and spoke about her viral post she uploaded earlier this month.
Barrymore's co-host Ross Matthews asked Bertinelli why she decided to upload the shocking photo.
“Well, you know, I've been coming to terms with my body now, as I'm getting older, and I saw myself in the light. And I said, 'Oh, I'm not mad about it,'” she said.
Bertinelli decided to give Barrymore and her viewers a closer look at her body and lifted her red jacket to reveal her midriff.
The gesture received applause from Barrymore.
“Like all those exercises that I've done, you know, that I've done, you can see underneath the sagging skin,” Bertinelli said. “But I have to say…it's 64 years of gravity. It's science. If you focus on that picture, you'll see the little flabs, and I'm proud of them because I'm 64 years old. It's abs.”
Bertinelli went on to discuss the comments she has received over the years regarding her body.
“Why, why, why? And a lot of people are like, 'You're so skinny.' You're too fat. You are out of shape. You are in good shape. Oh, my God. I want those abs. Oh my God. Oh my God, you're ugly. So, what I've learned is that my father was wrong, you can't make everyone like you, and I'm okay with that, finally at this age.
“Well, you know, I've been coming to terms with my body now, getting older, and I saw myself in the light. And I said, 'Oh, I'm not mad about it.'”
“I don't like that I've been part of this manipulation of our brains where we have to look a certain way. We have to have a certain weight,” she added. “I'm a size 10. How is this so skinny? I'm a size 10. How is this so fat? It's just me. It's my body.”
On December 2, Bertinelli shared a photo of herself posing in the mirror wearing only her bra and underwear.
“At some point I'll talk about the craziness my body has been through this year. But for now, every mass of wrinkles and saggy part of me feels a little accepting and appreciative standing in front of the mirror in a downtown hotel bathroom.” “Manhattan is ready to color my roots late one night.” Monday,” she captioned her post.

But her journey toward acceptance was not an easy road. Earlier this year, Bertinelli chose to abstain from alcohol and focus more on her future and less on her past.
She shared inspiring videos and messages encouraging followers to “never forget the miracle of being here.”
In one letter, Bertinelli wrote: “I have always been skilled at berating myself about my past and how I could have done better. I have become a master at judging myself. Judge, jury, and executioner.”
“I don't want to do that anymore. I want to live a real, full life, with my heart open to experience everything. No more judgement. Accepting who I am, flaws and all. What makes me, me.”

Bertinelli addressed her followers, encouraging them to think about coping mechanisms or unhealthy habits, such as heavy drinking or binge eating, that they may have developed that “can prevent us from fully opening our hearts.”
Part of her “intentional” healing journey has been through working on her latest cookbook, “Indulge.” She told People magazine that her recovery process was not linear and involved “a lot of therapy sessions, a lot of learning that I deserve to feel good.”

“First came work,” she said. “Why I thought I didn't deserve to be loved. Why I was using food to numb my emotions. All the drama and trauma I hadn't dealt with — with Ed and my last marriage.”
“The cookbook was an offshoot of the emotional and mental therapy I was doing,” she said. “I know we're talking about a cookbook, but this cookbook got me through all of that.”
Ed refers to the late musician Eddie Van HalenHer first husband and father of her only child was Wolfgang Van Halen. Her last marriage was to financial planner Tom Vitale, whom she divorced in 2022.

“The more I allowed myself to cry, the better I felt. I wasn't trying to be happy or sad or thin. I wasn't trying to be anything other than what I was,” she wrote in the book.
