Errol Spence took to social media today to tell his followers that he plans to return to the ring soon for his long-awaited comeback. He showed a picture of a great white shark and said, β€œAlmost.”

Errol will challenge WBC and WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) in early 2025 in a yet-to-be-announced fight.

Spence is being a wreck

It's a risky fight for Spence, because he's never fought at 154 years old, but that's his style. He does not believe in fighting control battles. Fundora confirmed this week that Spence will be next.

The 34-year-old Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) was collecting dust for the last time 16 months Since Terence Crawford knocked him out in nine rounds on July 29, 2023. Spence was coming off a 15-month layoff from that fight, and looked terrible, as the then-35-year-old Crawford dominated him.

Former unified welterweight champion Spence was supposed to be back in the ring soon, but this type of layoff has become the norm for him. He has been fighting irregularly since a car accident on October 10, 2019. Errol crashed his expensive Ferrari in Dallas, Texas, just 12 days after his victory over Shawn Porter on September 28, 2019.

Facing the 6'5 1/2″ Fundora in his debut at 154 years old isn't the smartest thing for Spence to do, but I don't think he cares at this point in his career. Errol has made his fortune, and is able to be reckless by jumping straight into dangerous fights without having to make adjustments.

No patience

Like many fighters who are used to being involved in big fights, Spence doesn't seem to have enough patience to get into his matches after long layoffs. He's just reckless. Hence, he now pays the price, as he is eliminated by Crawford and is likely headed for another loss to Fundora.

If Spence loses to Fundora, it will be interesting to see if he chooses to retire or continue fighting. You might want to think that he will learn from his loss through activity, but this is unlikely. Once again, he made his money and cut corners.
