Arne Slott, Liverpool coach, defended his striker Darwin Nunez, before the Fulham match in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Uruguay striker Nunez has scored just three goals for the Reds this season, but Slott says he brings more than just goals to the team, who could move seven points clear of the Reds if they win at Anfield.

“Darwin is an influence,” Slote said. He didn't score as many goals as we or we wanted, but it affected his work rate.

“He's part of a team that scores a lot of goals, and I don't judge Darwin just by his goals.”

Liverpool have scored 76 goals in 33 matches in the calendar year so far, and have scored at least two goals in their last seven Premier League matches.

The return of Chiesa and Jota?

Slott's attacking options could be bolstered by the return of both Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa from injury.

Chiesa has played just 18 minutes in the Premier League since joining Liverpool from Juventus last summer.

The Italian is back to fitness but manager Arne Slott says it may be difficult to get him up to speed with his busy schedule.

“What he needs is playing time,” Slott said.

“If you haven't played for five or six months, it's sometimes difficult for the coach to give him those minutes because you don't know what to expect.

“The Southampton game might be a good game to give him minutes. He needs to get his fitness level up. He needs game time. But it's not always easy to find those minutes.
