KYIV (Reuters) – Russia launched a large-scale attack on energy facilities in Ukraine on Friday morning, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galoshenko said.
“The enemy continues its terror. Once again, the energy sector throughout Ukraine is under massive attack,” Galoshenko wrote in a Facebook post.
Ukraine's energy system has already suffered 11 waves of Russian attacks this year, which caused widespread damage and prolonged power outages across the country.
Friday's attack led to additional restrictions on consumers' energy use, according to national grid operator Ukrenergo.
The entire Ukraine was under air raid alerts.
Local authorities reported several explosions in the southern city of Odessa, and regional authorities in Kiev said air defense systems were operational.
Foreign Minister Andrej Sepha called on partners to urgently deliver more air defense systems.
“Russia aims to deprive us of energy. Instead, we must deprive it of the means of terrorism. I reiterate my call for the urgent delivery of 20 NASAMS, HAWK or IRIS-T air defense systems,” Sibiha wrote in a post on Twitter. X.
