The title fight between Keyshawn Davis vs. WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk will be concluded on February 14 at the Madison Square Garcia Hula Theater in New York. The theater has a capacity of 5,600 seats.
This is a place. Keyshawn recently boasted of bringing out a crowd of over 11,000 for his last fight against Gustavo Lemos on November 8th at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. This fight taking place at a smaller venue indicates that Top Rank wants more attention.
Norfolk isn't quite New York City when it comes to capturing the world's attention. The downside to the event in New York is that if Keshon fails, as he did in the 2020 Olympics and as he almost did against Nahir Albright, his stock will plummet.
Mike Coppinger reports that top-ranked Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KOs) and Berinchyk (19-0, KOs) are close to wrapping up their February fight.
The 2012 Olympic silver medalist Perinczyk has recent victories over these fighters:
– Emanuel Navarrete
-Anthony Yigit
– Ivan Mendy
The way Perincek Navarrete found out must have disappointed Top Rank because they put their biggest name on him, probably thinking he would win. He's been exposed, and now it's Keyshawn's turn, and he's not as big a star as Navarrete.
Promoter Eddie Hearn recently mentioned his desire to use Berinchyk as a backup option if he can't get a fight between WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and WBA champion Gervonta Davis in 2025. Top Rank has moved on Hearn and is putting their man, Keyshawn, in the bottom two. With Perinchik.
Fast track to the top
Three-year-old 25-year-old professional Keyshawn is quickly getting a title shot by his promoters without fighting anyone who is unable to win a bout. He chose not to accept the challenge from his conquerors four times Andy Cruz From Cuba, who refers to Kishon as “my son” due to his many victories. When asked about the possibility of fighting 2020 Olympic gold medalist Crews, Keshawn turned it down, as he felt he was not at his level.
Interestingly enough, Top Rank is giving Davis a title shot at the top Raymond Muratalawho many fans feel is a better talent and more entertaining to watch. Keyshawn is a combination of Shakur and George Kambosos in his fighting style. It's not always entertaining.
“I think he's more combative,” Keshawn said of Gervonta Davis. “In his words I look good out there. I look great. It's undeniable to the world that I do it. I feel like I'm headlining Davis vs. Davis, and that's a PPV in itself.”
“I feel like this guy really wants to fight me. I feel like 2025 will be the year you see Davis vs. Davis. Just keep following us. Just keep following our careers. My next fight is a big fight to get my first world title.
“Personally, I still have a lot to prove, but 2025 should be big for The Businessman.” “I think what impresses him most is his knockout,” Keshawn said about what impresses him most about Tank Davis. “He has incredible strength.
“Aside from that, he shows he has the one-punch power to get you out of there, but I would say everything else, I've seen it before. I feel like I'll give him his best fight next. I feel like I'm going to give him his best fight next,” Keshawn said when asked about Gervonta's weakness. “I am his weak point.”
Perinczyk is a tough fight for Davis because he is a high-tech fighter, coming off a 12-round split decision win over Emanuel Navarrete on May 18. If Keyshawn loses this fight, it will highlight Top Rank's mistake in signing him instead of his victor, Andy Cruz, who repeatedly beat him like a drum in the amateurs.
Eyes on Gervonta
“Everything I do, my press conferences, my weigh-ins, my energy. I'm a younger fighter. My size. I just feel like myself in general; how I fight is his weakness,” Keshawn said of Tank.
“Absolutely, that's what we're going to do. February is the month I would say it's going to happen. “It looks like New York,” Keshawn said about when he will face WBO lightweight champion Denis Perincek.
“It's going to be a big year.”
