Radio host Charlamagne Tha God has urged President Biden not to issue a preemptive pardon to President-elect Donald Trump's political enemies before he leaves office, suggesting the move would imply the recipients are guilty.
This came during Thursday's episode of the program “Breakfast Clubradio show, adding that the president should focus on individuals incarcerated for non-violent crimes.
“I don't think President Biden should issue preemptive pardons either. It makes people look guilty if you ask me. Biden should pardon all non-violent drug offenders in federal prisons,” Fee said. Clip reported by Mediaite.

The White House announced on Thursday that the president had commuted prison sentences for about 1,500 people and granted 39 pardons, the largest single-day pardon in modern history.

The outlet noted that White House counsel Ed Siskel is arranging discussions about a potential pardon with several other top Biden aides, including chief of staff Jeff Zients, though Biden himself has not yet been part of the talks.
During Wednesday's episode of ABC's “The View,” former President Bill Clinton spoke about the matter Biden will likely pardon his wifeHillary Clinton. “I think if President Biden wanted to talk to me about it, I would talk to him about it, but I don't think I should be giving general advice about the pardon power,” he said.
Charlemagne responded to those comments on Thursday, again stressing that the president should reserve clemency for perpetrators of nonviolent crimes.
“Everyone in federal prison with a non-violent weed conviction should be pardoned, okay? He should pardon Marilyn Mosby,” he said, referring to the former Baltimore state's attorney.
“This is the pardon he needs to work on before he gets out of here,” the host said.
“Breakfast Club” co-host DJ Envy defended the idea of pardoning Trump's enemies so he can't go after them once he returns to the White House: “We know who Trump is, and we know what Trump is probably going to do.”

“Or it could mean that Trump knows something we don't know and that's why he's going after these people,” Charlamagne responded. “I don't understand why you would give someone a preemptive pardon. It's like you're saying 'Okay, I know this person is guilty of something, and Trump might go after him.'” .
Other liberals advised Biden to avoid preemptive pardons for Trump's enemies. Washington Post journalist Ruth A. Marcus wrote: column this week Pointing out that Biden's use of pardons in this way “would set an unfortunate precedent, and will likely be repeated by some future presidents who seek to protect their allies from retaliation.”
