The Russian media said that the leader of a pro -Russian paramilitary group in eastern Ukraine died in the hospital after an explosion in Moscow on Monday morning.

Armen Sargesian, the leader of the “ARBAT” battalion, was seriously injured after an explosion in the entrance hall of a residential building in northwest Moscow, 12 km (7 miles) of the Kremlin.

He was evacuated to the hospital with a helicopter and placed in intensive care after the explosion, but he eventually surrendered to his injuries, according to reliable sources of telegraph.

Olga Furonova, a 36 -year -old mother who lived in the building adjacent to the explosion, told Agence France -Presse news agency that she was “very afraid” and did not understand how the explosion happened.

“We have very serious security guards, and they ask every car at checkpoints, we ask for passes for guests, even for family members.”

Mr. Sargsian was born in Gorlovka, a city in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, which was occupied by Russia since 2014.

In a telegram publication confirming his death, the mayor of the city, Ivan Prikudco, said that “the achievement of Sargsian is the most important of which is the creation and leadership of a separate special forces battalion.”

Mr. PRIKHODKO said Mr. Sargsyan was also the head of the Boxing Union of the self -declared Donetsk Republic.

The “ARBAT” battalion is known to operate in the Russian Kursk region, where the Ukrainian forces are still present after they launched a sudden attack in August.
