Kagiso Rabada's stunning bowling performance, which included his first five wickets in Asia, led South Africa to a crushing seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in Dhaka. Rabada's impressive 6-46 on day four dismantled Bangladesh's second innings, restricting them to 307, and setting South Africa a modest target of 106 for victory.
Starting the final day at 283/7, Bangladesh had only added 24 more runs before Rabada got his fifth wicket by dismissing Naeem Hasan lbw in the first over. Mehidi Hasan Miraz, who showed his bravery in a fighting 97, was the last to fall, cutting the ball to Wayan Mulder at third slip, leaving Bangladesh out. Rabada's heroics were complemented well by Jan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj, who provided crucial support in both innings.
South Africa, aware of the imminent threat of rainfall, handled the chase favorably. Aiden Markram and Tony De Zorzi quickly set the tone, with the captain hitting the boundary early. Despite Markram and De Zorzi losing to Taijul Islam, South Africa remained on the right track. Tristan Stubbs and David Bedingham played with confidence, and Stubbs finished with an unbeaten run of 30 matches, winning just 22 matches.
Bangladesh's first innings collapsed as Rabada, Mulder and Maharaj took quick wickets, leaving the hosts bowled out for just 106. South Africa found themselves in early trouble at 108/6 but were rescued by Kyle Vereen's brilliant 114 and Mulder's half-century. A total of 308 runs earned a big lead in the first innings. Although Mehedi and Jakir Ali produced a record partnership for Bangladesh in the second half, Rabada's winning spell ensured they had plenty to do.
South Africa's clinical performance, led by Rabada, gives them a 1-0 lead in the two-match series and marks their first Test win in Asia since 2014.
