A draft law submitted in Washington State The legislature will require drivers with a date of speed to place the speed reduction device on their cars.
The House Law 1596 was proposed after supporters said that the increase in fatal accidents is caused by speed. The draft law was heard in the Transport Committee in the House of Representatives on Thursday and it will require the installation of a “smart aid device for speed” in the cars of some drivers, according to FOX 13.
The device limits the speed of the car using GPS technology to follow the maximum speed in which the car is driving. These drivers can exceed the maximum speed up to three times a month.
The driver will have the device on his car if they have a new bound license by the bill. This is similar to how to use interlocking ignitions for people with a driving history.
Drivers will also receive the device during the test period after suspending their license due to the race or “excessive speed”, which is defined as driving at least 20 miles per hour by speed. The court can also request drivers Speed reduction On their car.

According to data in 2023 from the Traffic Safety Committee in Washington, one out of three fatal accidents in the state included a quick driver. The total number of deadly accidents and the number that involves speed has been heading up since 2019.
“Between 2019 and 2024, fast drivers' tickets that exceed 50 miles per hour increased by 200 %,” and Chile Baldwin also witnessed the committee. “So we know this is an increasing problem that we deal with.”
Republican Representative, MP, Gloria Mendoza, asked how the bill helps to keep people safe by allowing speed to continue leadership.
“So we are trying to help them regain their license by giving them this tool,” Mindoza said. “How does this help save lives?”
