The opposition leader in Germany, Friedrich Mirz, failed to pay a draft migration law backed by the far right, crowning a week of bruises to become the candidate for the elections next month.
Mirz, the leader of the Christian Democrats, sought to restrict immigration rules with the support of the alternative to the German party (AFD). The bill fell by 12 votes on Friday. Twelve deputies from the Mirz Parliament group were absent.
The setback came after Mirz passed a non -binding movement on immigration with AFD support earlier this week, which led to a wide condemnation. This was the first time in the post -war history in the country, as the majority appeared in Bundestag, thanks to the far right.
With only three weeks to go before the general elections, Mirz parliamentary initiatives sparked a violent debate about the growing influence on the far right in the largest country in Europe.
On Thursday, former CDU adviser Angela Merkel, the Mirz party for a long time, Condemn As a “mistake”. In scathing reprimand, the Catholic and Protestant churches in the country warned of Mirz measures and cooperating with AFD. Thousands of demonstrators gathered in front of the CDU headquarters in Berlin.
Counselor Olaf Schools, Democrats and Vegetables, led by Economy Minister Robert Habik, rejected both initiatives, accusing Mirz of violating taboos and democracy at risk by copying AFD policies.
During a three -hour hot discussion, Mirz, who excluded any official alliance with AFD, refused to accuse his initiative would strengthen the extremist right -wing party. Instead, he insisted that he was seeking to contain his rise.
He said that AFD, which is expected to secure a record of 20 percent of the votes on February 23, was “undermining the foundations of our democracy” and wanted to exterminate the Democratic Democratic Union Convention, adding: “Do you seriously think that we are reaching a party you want to destroy?“
Mirz argued that it was important to adopt tangible measures after several Metal attacks It was implemented by asylum seekers in the past months.
“Do we agree that the influx of asylum seekers to the Federal Republic of Germany should be limited?” He asked. “To restore respect for the majority of citizens, we must prove that we are able to make decisions in the political center. “
The draft law was also supported by the Liberal FDP party and the left national Sahra Wagenknecht alliance (BSW). It sought to restrict entry rules for refugee family members and give more laws to enforce law.
The draft law was pushed to kill a young child and an adult by the Afghan asylum seeker in Bavaria last week. This came a month after the Saudi refugee was shocked in the Christmas market in Magdburg, and after the Syrian asylum seeker stabbed three people in Solgen in August.
“It will now be left to the next German Bundestag to introduce new laws,” Mirz said, as the German association interferes on the pre -election holiday starting next week.
The parliamentary setback was not reflected in opinion polls. This week, CDU was on the right path to win the February 23 elections by 30 percent.
Investigative studies have shown that the proposals are supported by the majority of the Germans. However, they also suggested that a large percentage of voters was concerned about AFD. About 80 percent of them say that the extreme right -wing party cannot be dealt with as an ordinary party, according to Forsa, a survey expert.
On Friday, Rolf Motzenic, leader of the SPD group in Bundestag, fateful, was evacuated by the fateful Weimar Republic, which preceded the Nazi regime.
“Weimar failed due to the lack of unity by Democrats!” The veteran politician said. “You must rebuild the protection wall. Wall to protect!”
