WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Republican House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson said on Saturday that US President Donald Trump received an invitation to deliver a speech in front of a joint session of the Congress on the fourth of March.
Johnson said on the social media platform X: “It is a great honor for me and a great privilege for me to invite President Donald Trump to deliver a speech in front of a joint Congress on Tuesday 4 March 2025, to share his vision of America first for our future.” Da`wah letter. He also published his office.
This will be the first speech of Trump since he took office on January 20. Trump's Republican Party has a small majority in the House of Representatives and a more comfortable majority in the Senate.
The White House press secretary, Caroline Levitte, confirmed that Trump will deliver his speech on the fourth of March.
The president is likely to address his agenda and goals for this year during his statements.
Trump pays a plan to use revenues from high customs duties on imported goods to help pay the costs of extending trillion dollars from tax cuts. He threatened to impose comprehensive customs definitions on imports, but he has not imposed any of them yet.
Legislative and analysts said that such a campaign will likely face opposition from many Republicans in Congress, especially the budget hawks, concern about the reliability and durability of customs definition revenues, as well as the potential risks posed by commercial wars on individual provinces and voters.
The president and his allies say that he wants to use customs duties such as personal taxes and corporate taxes that represent the vast majority of American revenues, and raise fees to help pay government programs and cover the promised tax cuts.
