Screenwriter Paul Schrader, known for critically acclaimed works like “Taxi Driver,” “Raging Bull” and “First Reformed,” surprised when he shared his apparent approval of artificial intelligence.
In a series of posts last week, Oscar Nomini marveled at the capabilities of AI and Chatgpt when it comes to his profession.

He wrote: “I just requested a Chatgpt for 'Paul Schrader Movie Idea'.” Then saved from the original Quinto.
“Why should writers sit for months looking for a good idea when AI can provide one in seconds?”
“I just realized that AI is smarter than me. It has better ideas, and it has more efficient ways of executing them.”
The latest post, as well as others, led to a lot of discussion in the comments, with many surprised that the veteran screenwriter and director would express such a Interest in technology.

“This isn't cool, Paul. I get the first impression, I did the same thing. But read a few paragraphs and you'll see — she's an empty vessel,” one person wrote.

Many people also joked that Schrader's page had been hacked, given the number of posts he shared about AI, with some asking “Did AI write this?”
Schrader also praised the 2013 film “Her”, starring Joaquin Phoenix as a man who falls into an artificial intelligence operating system, Voiced by Scarlett Johansson.
He said of the film: “It's more relevant, more alive and very scary than it was ten years ago. This film is growing in stature. I loved it then, I love it now. There's only one like it.”
