Former Arsenal left-back Nigel Winterburn says signing a new striker could be a “catalyst” for success.
Mikel Arteta's side have been runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League in each of the last two seasons and currently sit second once again – six points behind leaders Liverpool.
They have struggled for a top scorer since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club with winger Bukayo Saka their main goal threat last season.
Saka will be out through injury, and while Winterburn knows that signing a proven goalscorer is not easy, he believes it will make a big difference.
Talk to 101 great goals via William Hill Vegas “The discussion with Arsenal is always about centre-forward,” Winterburn said.
“My personal belief is that if everyone is fit, scoring a clear goal will make Arsenal very dangerous.
“If you can guarantee a striker 25 goals in the Premier League, that will be an incentive. We haven't won any titles with this new team.

“With a new striker we will be very close and we will scare a lot of teams.”
The Gunners have scored 43 goals in the Premier League this season, seven fewer than Liverpool and one behind both Chelsea and Manchester City.
Kai Havertz is the team's top scorer in the league with eight goals, and Aubameyang was the last man to score 20 league goals in the 2019-20 season.
“You can go out and buy a striker and still not win a trophy,” Winterburn said. “We had strikers before but the team was not strong enough.
“But now the team is strong when everyone is fit. The problem this season was injuries and having to move players and manipulate the system.”
