A Las Vegas A man who was captured on video jumping over a courtroom bench and desk and attacking a judge was sentenced Tuesday to at least 26 years behind bars.

Debra Redden, 31, was sentenced to serve 26 to 65 years in a Nevada prison for the Jan. 3 attack on Clark County Circuit Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus. According to KLAS-TV.

Redden pleaded guilty but mentally ill in September to attempted murder and other charges shortly after Holthus, 62, testified that she feared for her life when Redden jumped over her 4-foot high chair and landed on top of her.

The attack occurred as Holthus was preparing to hand over sentence to Redden V A separate felony battery case.

The incident was captured on video in the courtroom, showing Holthus falling from her seat against the wall while Redden jumped onto her seat, grabbed her by the hair, and threw the American flag at them. Holtos was injured but was not hospitalized.

Redden was not taking his prescribed medication to control his diagnosed schizophrenia when he carried out the attack, according to his attorney, Carl Arnold.

Arnold said when Redden pleaded guilty in September that it “reflected a delicate balance between accepting responsibility for an unfortunate incident and acknowledging the impact of Mr. Redden's then-untreated mental illness.”

Red He said in court Tuesday that he did not intend to kill Holthus, according to KLAS-TV.

“I'm not making excuses for my actions, but I'm saying I'm not a bad person and I know I didn't intend to kill Mary Kay Holthus,” he told the court.

Redden will be eligible for parole sometime after 2050.
