republican Congressman from Arizona Andy Biggs on Tuesday announced his interest in running for governor in 2026 as the GOP looks to defeat incumbent Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs.
Biggs, Ally L President Donald Trump The former president of the conservative Freedom Caucus, he submitted a statement of interest, which is required before he can begin collecting signatures to qualify for the ballot.
However, submitting a statement does not mean that the candidate will follow through.
In a statement posted to X, Biggs said he “will bring my experience to my home state to help it achieve its tremendous potential. I have a strong understanding of what the state needs to thrive.”
Biggs chaired the Freedom Caucus from 2019 to 2021 and was one of eight Republicans who helped oust the former House Speaker Kevin McCarthyCalifornia, in 2023.
If Biggs runs, it could lead to a fight between him and Karen Taylor Robson, who is also a Trump ally.

“Are you running for governor? I think so, Karen, because if you do, you'll have my support, okay?” Trump told a crowd last month at Turning Point USA's Americafest event in Phoenix.
Robeson ran for governor in 2022 but lost to Carrie Lake, who Trump endorsed. Lake lost that year's election to Hobbs and recently lost his bid for a prize US Senate.
Biggs said in his statement that he looks forward “to speaking with my fellow Arizonans as I consider this important decision.”
State Sen. Jake Huffman, a Republican and founding president of the Arizona Freedom Caucus, endorsed Biggs on X.

“Andy will be a great governor and will ensure Arizona is safe and prosperous for everyone,” he wrote.
