Stephen Warnock praised Curtis Jones' brilliant pass for Mohamed Salah in Liverpool's Champions League match against Lille.
The midfielder cut into the French team's midfield and defense from deep, allowing 32-year-old Salah to fire from close range.
The goal gives the Premier League side a 1-0 lead at Anfield at the end of the first half.
On BBC Sport, a former Reds defender Warnock wrote in the live blog: “Great from Liverpool in the press and the way they win the ball back. The Lille players go forward because they think they have good possession, but they fall into the trap and Mohamed Salah makes no mistake.
“That's what I was saying about Curtis Jones. “The way he plays the pass kills Lille's press and that finish is decisive as we've seen from Salah time and time again this season.”
Curtis Jones puts himself in an embarrassing position after snubbing Mohamed Salah
Earlier this week, Jones risked angering Reds fans when he claimed Chelsea legend Eden Hazard was a “better footballer” than Salah.
The Liverpool player admitted that he would prefer to pay to watch the retired Belgian instead of his colleague Salah.
Jones said in an interview with TNT Sports With Rio Ferdinand that his comments may veer a little 'to the left' with his supporters.
He said: “I know this may be a little delayed with our fans because the comparison is always there, but Hazard is the only one.” “I know we compare him to Moe all the time and I was interested in it with Moe.”
But then he made it clear that he thought Salah was the match-winner and that he was very happy to have him by his side.
“I play it, which I saw as a kid when I loved the game and wanted to be like the player. I feel like it was Hazard. I used to watch him in every match and say to him: ‘Oh my God, this is football.’ Now he is, I can’t say he doesn’t.” He is respected, but he will not participate in certain conversations as much as he should.
“I had a conversation with Mo and all the players. As a footballer, is he better than Mo? In my opinion, yes. But who would you rather have in your team? They will say Mo because he scores your goals and assists you.
Ferdinand said: “I would pay to go see Hazard first, but if I were to pick a team to win a match, I would pick Salah.”
“Yes, exactly, sure, it's that simple,” Jones replied.
Later, in a tweet, Jones posted a photo of himself smiling with Salah and wrote: “The person I would rather have on my team.”
