Manchester United are said to be intensifying their pursuit of Lecce's promising talent, Patrick Dorgo, as they aim to strengthen their squad during the current January transfer window.

The Red Devils are currently going through a difficult phase of form and are exploring options to strengthen key areas of the squad, with Dorjo emerging as a leading candidate to join the ranks.

Initial reports indicated that Manchester United are preparing to enter into formal talks with Lecce To complete the transfer of the 20-year-old Danish international.

Now, according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, discussions between the two clubs are already underway, with face-to-face meetings planned for this week to negotiate a potential deal.

Fabrizio Romano: Ruben Amorim agrees to sign Patrick Dorgo

Romano shared the latest update on XConfirming that Ruben Amorim gave his approval for the transfer:

“Talks have already begun between the clubs with Manchester United officials to hold a direct meeting with Lecce this week. Ruben Amorim has also agreed to Dorgu; he is a strong candidate in the list, as was exclusively revealed two weeks ago.”

Although Manchester United appear to be leading the race for Durgu, they face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool, who are also said to be interested in signing the versatile defender. However, United's proactive approach and ongoing talks suggest they are in the driving seat to secure the player's signature.

Dorgo, who recently extended his contract with Lecce until 2029, has made great strides since joining the Italian club's Under-19 squad in 2022.

The winger-turned-fullback made his Serie A debut in August 2023 against Lazio and has since established himself as a regular at Lecce. With 22 appearances in all competitions this season, Durjo has contributed three goals and one assist.

One of Dorgu's standout attributes is his versatility, as he has shown his ability in multiple roles, including as a right winger and as a left-back. This adaptability will make him a valuable asset for Manchester United, whose tactical flexibility under Amorim will benefit from a player with Durgu's skill set.

Manchester United need a new left-back

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is keen to address the club's left-back problems, with Luke Shaw absent due to injury. Terrell Malacia expects to end his nightmare at Old Trafford by exiting this month.

Diogo Dalot has filled in on the left during their absence and done well, but he feels more comfortable in his natural position on the right side.

The new left-back is a position that needs to be addressed and it looks like the club will soon do so with the signing of Durgu.
