Trump's advisers and some conservative legal scholars have previously argued that the idea of granting birthright citizenship to children of illegal immigrants is based on a misreading of the amendment.

The new officials also said Monday that Trump will sign orders suspending refugee resettlement for four months and ending migrants' ability to seek asylum by creating an immediate deportation process without the possibility of asylum.
“We will end asylum and close the borders to illegal immigrants,” one official said.
