Carlo Ancelotti will reportedly leave his position as Real Madrid coach at the end of the current season, despite having a contract with the club until the summer of 2026.
Ancelotti, who scored two goals in La Liga and UEFA Champions League Double since returning to the Spanish capital in 2021, he signed a new contract with the club in 2023. This came at a time when he was approaching the end of his previous contract and was being widely and publicly courted by the Brazil men's national team.
However, in just over a year, the legendary Italian coach may call for his second spell at the Bernabéu.
The report comes from the Spanish radio station Zero waveClaiming that Ancelotti has already made up his mind that this season will be his last with Real Madrid. Even if the season ends with more trophies and the hierarchy insists it continues, the 65-year-old will leave.
It won't be so he can retire, however Ancelotti He is said to be interested in taking his career to another new country – he has worked in Italy, England, France, Spain and Germany so far.
This does not necessarily mean Brazil, although it could certainly still be a possibility if the Seleção go on to qualify for the 2026 World Cup under Dorival Junior. The Saudi Professional League ambition will no doubt be linked if Ancelotti becomes available anytime soon.
When it comes to alternatives, Zero wave Note that the former Madrid Midfielder Xabi Alonso is the 'favourite'. The 2014 Champions League winner demonstrated his ability as a coach through his achievements with Bayer Leverkusen. Last summer, Liverpool refused to stay in Germany.
Although Real Madrid have signed Kylian Mbappe and the likes of Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo are yet to reach their peak years, it seems there is a need to start a new chapter. Toni Kroos has already left, while Luka Modric will turn 40 in September, and Thibaut Courtois, Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Lucas Vazquez are all on the wrong side of 30.
