The cricket community has seen some sort of action taken by the BCCI recently issuing a 10-point diktat to players to simplify everything they do on and off the field; From cricket to involving their families during overseas tours. There have been many reactions to this 10-point mandate since its announcement. However, the true nature of these new rules has only now been revealed.

What are the 10-point guidelines issued by the BCCI?

The BCCI has introduced new guidelines aimed at enhancing team cohesion and discipline. Players are now required to participate in domestic cricket to remain eligible for national selection, with exceptions only granted in exceptional circumstances. The board also emphasized team travel, rejecting individual arrangements unless approved by the head coach and chair of the selection committee. Personal staff, including hairdressers or nannies, are prohibited from conducting tours unless a permit is obtained from the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Players must remain with the team until the end of the series or round, promoting bonding and continuity. Disciplinary measures, such as suspension or fines, will be imposed in the event of non-compliance. The new family travel policy allows players' families to join tours lasting longer than 45 days, with BCCI covering the costs of shared accommodation. In addition, players must adhere to baggage limits, attend full training sessions, avoid personal endorsements during tours, and prioritize BCCI activities.

Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar react to the new rules

Chief selector of the Indian cricket team Ajit Agarkar And captain of the Indian team Rohit Sharma They recently made their first public appearance since these guidelines were issued by the BCCI. When asked about their views on the new rules, the two Indian cricketers made some startling comments that highlighted the true nature of the new rules.

“Who told you about these rules? Did she come from the official handle? Let her come and we will talk.” Rohit said, while looking visibly upset with the reporter who asked him about the new guidelines during the press conference.

Agarkar's reaction was also far from ideal and equally stunned the cricket community. “I think every team has some rules in place. We've talked about a lot of things that I've seen over the last few months where we can improve as a team and get a little closer as a team. We've seen in the last few months the need for some changes and more cohesion in the team. said the former Indian contestant.

However, he also said that it is not a school punishment for the players, and the rules are meant to set some boundaries in the team since these players are superstars in their own right.

“It's not a school, it's not a punishment. It's just that you have some rules, and when you play for the national team, you just follow the rules. These are mature individuals. They are superstars in their own right in international sport. They know how to handle themselves.” Agarkar further added.

The Indian team is scheduled to play against England in a five-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series starting January 22 before heading to the UAE to play the 2025 Champions Trophy matches.
