Shakur Stevenson is convinced challenger Floyd Schofield may pull out of their fight on February 22, using some excuse that he was dreaming of walking out of the bout.
WBC lightweight champion Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) says Schofield's team's accusations that he has a spy in the camp to find out secrets, that he's shredding tires, and that he's tampering with his passport are all signs he's quitting.
Shakur expects to withdraw
It's not a good idea for Stevenson to continue discussing his unproven theory of Kid Austin pulling out of the fight because he's downplaying the importance of the match, and that will make fans lose interest. He needs to talk about the fight and try to get the fans excited about it.
Schofield (18-0, 12 KO) doesn't appear to be afraid of Stevenson, and seems confident that he will be able to walk on him and knock out the lightweight champion. We don't know how well Shakur will hold up in the fight because he's coming off surgery on his right hand, and he still didn't use that hand last week in training.
“It seems to me like they're trying to get out of the fight. They're saying, 'He did all this,' and when they don't show up for the fight, it's going to be an excuse. They're going to try to blame me and say something I did. Some fake stuff needs to be taken out of the fight,” Shakur Stevenson said. Cigar Talk About Floyd Scofield and his father.
“You don't have to. We're dealing with Kid Austin. I've seen him fight already. He's going to throw a big left hand,” Shakur said when asked about claims Team Schofield has made that they believe Stevenson has spies trying to get information about their training methods.
“(Schofield) will switch, then throw a hard left hand over the top. He'll throw a hard left hook. His right hand isn't really a s***. It's a science. Nothing new is going to happen. He's not going to beat anyone else,” Shakur said.
It would be interesting to know if Shakur truly believes Scofield is trying to get out of the fight, because that suggests his beliefs are not based in reality. Stevenson is not a good judge of people, it is clear that Kid Austin is not going to walk away from the fight and is looking at this as his big opportunity. The money is good, and it's Floyd's chance to turn himself into a star with a win.
If Scofield was afraid?
“I don't need to do any extracurricular work to benefit from that. I think he's scared, and I'm starting to get scared of the fact that he might pull out of the fight. I'm doing my training to go out, sign, and then you guys pull out of the fight,” Shakur said. Some b*** a** s*** bro.”
“I can't even watch the tape (of Schofield).” I've already seen it. “I know what to expect,” Shakur said.
