Kody Brown's daughter says her family was “very poor” before her wives

Sister wives star Maddie Brown She opened up about what her family's life was like before they started appearing on the TLC series.

“Before the show, we were very poor,” Maddie, 29, recalled on the Monday, December 9, episode of her radio show “The Authentic Society.” “I think my dad made good money, but you have 15 kids. Like a lot of kids.”

“I think we inherit a lot of our thought process about money from our parents,” she said. “My father always went for a get-rich-quick scheme, almost always. It was a strange idea for Caleb. And I remember explaining some of the ideas to him, and he said, 'No, no.'

Since their wedding, Maddie and Caleb, 37, have been trying to “build stability” with their finances.

“We did a lot of work on this together, because the poverty mindset is an interesting thing, especially when it comes to money,” she said. “Because when we got our tax returns when we were younger, my parents immediately spent it on something. And Caleb's family was educated and she wasn't. They saved him. They saved every penny they could. I mean. They were broke, and they were afraid of debt, and they did everything They could. It was very different (from) my father, so that was really hard to deal with.

At some point, Maddie realized that her father's approach to finance wouldn't work for her.
