Hollywood star Jamie Foxx has revealed why he was hospitalized in April last year.
Speaking during a special on Netflix, the Django Unchained star told the audience that he suffered a “bleed on the brain that led to a stroke”.
He said he had a bad headache one day and asked for an aspirin but before he could take it, “he passed out. I don't remember 20 days.”
At the time, his daughter Corinne Fox said he had “medical complications” but the family did not share details about his health issues.
In an emotional conversation with the audience for the film Jamie Foxx: What Happened Was…, which was recorded in Atlanta, the city where he was working when he fell ill, Foxx said he was initially sent home by paramedics after being given a cortisone injection.
Then his sister came to see him and felt that he was not himself, so she took him in her car to Piedmont Hospital.
The doctor then told him that he had suffered a brain hemorrhage that had led to a stroke, adding: “If I don't hit his head now, we will lose him.”
He said that his sister was praying the entire time during his operation outside the operating room.
Doctors were unable to determine the source of the brain hemorrhage.
Fox also told the audience, “Your life doesn't flash before your face. It was strangely quiet. I saw a tunnel, and I didn't see the light.”
“It was hot in that tunnel,” he joked. “Am I going to the wrong place?”
“He may be able to make a full recovery, but it's going to be the worst year of his life,” Fox said the doctor told his family.
The star praised his sister Deidra Dixon and daughter Corinne for “pressuring him” so no one would see him.
“They didn't want you to see me that way and I didn't want you to see me that way,” he told his fans.
He noted that his head movements were a bit unstable after the stroke and his daughter was worried that people were making funny pictures of him.
“Jamie Foxx doesn't have strokes,” he said he woke up on May 4, 2023, and was in a wheelchair because he couldn't walk, and he doesn't remember why, adding that he was in denial at first.
He revealed that he later underwent rehabilitation in Chicago.
Foxx was filming the Netflix movie Back In Action alongside Cameron Diaz when he became ill.
Since then, he has spoken fondly of the support he has received from his family but this is the first time he has given details about his condition.
