Conclave, about a talkative and cunning group of cardinals who meet in Rome to elect a new pope, leads this year's BAFTA film award nominations with 12 nods.
It is closely followed by Netflix's Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez, which tells the story of a Mexican cartel leader who leaves the world of crime to live a new life as a transgender woman.
Top nominees in BAFTA's acting categories include Cynthia Erivo and Demi Moore for Lead Actress, and Adrien Brody and Timothée Chalamet for Lead Actress.
But Denzel Washington and Daniel Craig failed to make the shortlist for Gladiator II and Queer respectively.
Nominations for Hugh Grant in the lead actor category for the horror film Heretic, and Saoirse Ronan in the lead actress category for The Outrun, are among some of the surprises.
Jamie Lee Curtis was nominated in the supporting actress category for The Last Showgirl, but the film's lead actress Pamela Anderson, who plays an elderly Las Vegas actress, missed out on the nomination.

Another film expected to do well this awards season is Anora, which received seven BAFTA nominations including Best Film.
It follows the whirlwind love story between a New York sex worker and the son of a wealthy Russian.
Miki Madison has been nominated as Lead Actress and is also a nominee for the audience-voted Rising Star Award.
Her co-star Yura Borisov was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, and director Sean Baker received his first BAFTA nomination for Best Director.
Half of the nominees in the best director category are first-time nominees, which also includes The Brutalist's Brady Corbett, who won the same award at the Golden Globes.
The film revolves around a Hungarian architect who is hired by a wealthy American after World War II. The film received nine nominations in total and is expected to be one of the biggest contenders for the Oscars.
Substance director Coralie Fargeat is another first-time directing nominee and the only woman nominated in this category.
Demi Moore was nominated for Best Actress for the film, weeks after winning a Golden Globe, putting her in a strong position for the Oscars.

Blockbuster films did relatively well in nominations, with Dune: Part Two and Wicked each receiving seven nods.
