Cardiff City, Everton and Fulham started the FA Cup third round, with all of them victorious in their matches on Thursday evening. Aston Villa ran out victors in the Premier League battle the following night, knocking out West Ham United during Graham Potter's first game in charge of the Irons.
Liverpool, who last won the competition in 2021/22, qualified for the fourth round with their victory 4-0 win over Accrington Stanley in League Two. Trent Alexander-Arnold impressed after a difficult week for the right-back and Federico Chiesa scored his first goal for the club.
Chelsea achieved a similar victory with a high score over League Two rivals, By defeating Morecambe 5-0 at Stamford Bridge. A brace from Tosin Adarabioyo and Joao Felix secured an emphatic victory, and the Blues will be joined by Bournemouth, Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest in the fourth round.
The biggest surprise of Saturday's FA Cup action was Plymouth Argyle's 1-0 win away to Brentford. Morgan Whittaker scored the winning goal in the Pilgrims' final before Miron Muslić took over from last sacked Wayne Rooney.
