In a video message to the nation before his arrest, President Yeon Suk-yeol said he had agreed to appear before the Corruption Investigation Bureau (CIO) for questioning. “I decided to appear before the IT director, even though this is an illegal investigation, so as to prevent any hateful bloodshed,” Yoon explained. He is being investigated for rebellion following a short-lived attempt to impose martial law in December.
