Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says Wednesday's north London derby against Arsenal is “as big as it's ever been” as he searches for a rare away win in the fixture.

Tottenham have won just one of their last 31 away games in the Premier League against Arsenal, most recently in November 2010.

Both teams have been plagued by injuries recently, with Tottenham needing extra time at the weekend to beat Tamworth, who are not playing in the league.

Former Celtic boss Postecoglou says this week's game is the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.

“I felt like it was intense from the moment I arrived, but at the same time I never tried to be sneaky about these things and say ‘this means the world to me’ when I just arrived,” he said.

“But you get the context of the game and what it means to the club, what it means to the fans and also what it means to our season.

“From that perspective, from the first time we played, I was very aware of that. A bit like me in Glasgow, you are very aware of what that means, and you are very aware of the ramifications – both positive and negative.

“I've been big on it since the first game, and this year it's bigger than ever, especially for us and our season.

He added: “We need to start winning games in the league, and there is no better place to start.”

Tottenham last won the league before Christmas and have won just three of their last 13 games in all competitions. Injury problems have led to Timo Werner being added to the squad, but Richarlison is available to face Arsenal – who have problems of their own.

“With the position we are in in the league at the moment, regardless of the turning points, we need to start winning games and moving up the table,” Postecoglou said.

“Although this is a big challenge for us tomorrow night, there is an opportunity for us to do it.”
