New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson suffered another embarrassment in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) draft on January 13. The former New Zealand captain failed to find any platinum candidates in the 2025 PSL Draft after going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The 2025 PSL Draft was held in Lahore on January 13, where 10 Platinum players were selected, but Kane Williamson failed to attract any bids. The Black Caps legend is in great form with the bat and is currently playing in SA20 2025 in South Africa.

Kane Williamson was not sold in the 2025 PSL Draft after being snubbed in the IPL 2025 auction

Currently, the right-handed batsman is playing for the Super Giants in Durban and he started the season with an impressive knock of 60* off 40 deliveries in SA20 2025, but that was not enough to convince the Pakistan Super League franchise to show their faith in him.

Kane Williamson, known for his technical brilliance in Tests and ODIs, has often been questioned for his technique and low strike rate in the fast-paced world of T20 cricket. His struggle to adapt to the aggressive demands of franchise leagues likely affected his appeal in major leagues.

Fitness concerns also played an important role in his value in the cricket world fading. The 34-year-old has suffered multiple injuries and was even sidelined from T20I cricket for the entirety of 2023. Williamson played just two matches between 2022 and 2024.

Meanwhile, American wicketkeeper-batsman Andris Goss has signed for Islamabad United, thus becoming the second American player to play in PSL history after fast bowler Ali Khan. Well, Lahore Qalandars used the right-of-match card on Tayyab Tahir in the 2025 PSL Players Draft.

On the other hand, Peshawar Zalmi also used a right-to-match card for Tom Kohler-Cadmore in the draft. Former Australian opener David Warner, who was also unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, is all set to make his debut in the Pakistan Super League after being picked up by Karachi Kings.

David Warner is a top pick in the Platinum category

Apart from David Warner, New Zealand spinner Daryl Mitchell, New Zealanders Mark Chapman and Michael Bracewell, England batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Short have all been selected in the first round in the Platinum category.
