Fox News Digital has confirmed that Jennifer Rubin, a longtime Washington Post columnist, has resigned from the beleaguered newspaper.
Rubin, an outspoken critic of President-elect Donald Trump, recently publicly attacked The Washington Post, especially its owner Jeff BezosFor trying to become more politically neutral.
“I'm afraid things are going from bad to worse at The Washington Post,” Rubin told CNN in an interview about her exit.
Rubin added that the newspaper “failed miserably at a time when we desperately need a strong, aggressive free press.”
Rubin joins several high-profile staffers who have announced their departures to other outlets, including reporters Josh Dawsey, Ashley Parker, Michael Scherer, Tyler Page and Lee-Anne Caldwell, columnist Charles Lane, health and science editor Stephen Smith, and veteran editor Mattia Gould.
Editor-at-large Robert Kagan and several members of the editorial board resigned last year when Bezos received a planned endorsement Vice President Kamala Harris.
New York Times reporter Ben Mullen posted her resignation letter on X, shooting Bezos on her way out.
The Washington Post begins layoffs, cutting 4 percent of the workforce
“The corporate and billionaire owners of major media have betrayed the loyalty of their audiences and sabotaged journalism's sacred mission — to defend, protect, and advance democracy. The billionaire owner of The Washington Post and its corporate management are among the culprits,” Rubin wrote.
She continued: “They undermined the core values of the newspaper’s mission, which are the values of integrity, courage, and journalistic independence. I cannot justify remaining at The Washington Post.” “Jeff Bezos and his cronies are coopting and enabling the most dangerous threat to American democracy — Donald Trump — at a time when a vibrant free press is more important than ever to the survival of our democracy and its ability to thrive.”
Rubin is teaming up with former Obama White House official Norm Eisen to start a publication called Paradox. The publication's tagline, “Not owned by anyone,” is a snarky reference to Jeff Bezos.
Rubin has been one of the Washington Post's most vocal supporters of the Biden administration, as well as one of the already liberal newspaper's most anti-Republican voices.
