In 2022, Steph CurrySonia Curry's mother made a startling confession in her memoir, Fierce Love, writing that she considered having an abortion when she was pregnant with Steph Curry. During an appearance on The Travis Hearn Podcast, Sonya talked about how her mother considered having an abortion when she was pregnant.
After teasing the podcast's debut earlier in the week, the full episode was released on Wednesday. Sonya spoke about a wide range of topics, from motherhood to her divorce from Dell Curry and everything in between.
At one point, she talked about how her mother got pregnant when she was 16 during the period when the United States was desegregating schools. The pregnancy was unwanted, causing Sonia's mother to consider whether or not to have an abortion.

That's when her grandmother intervened.
“My grandmother chimed in and said, ‘You'll take care of your responsibilities,'” Sonia said. “It was a huge burden on a young woman, 16, 17 years old, experiencing an unwanted pregnancy.”
“I don't want to say rape, but it was an unwanted situation, in the club. I find it difficult to talk about it, so I'll leave it as an unwanted pregnancy. After that, I almost had a miscarriage. But it didn't work out, and here I am.”
Steph Curry's mother kept her children away from the NBA media long before the era of debate shows
One of the biggest topics of discussion in NBA circles are debate shows like “First Take.” While hot takes, heated discussions and intense criticism spark engagement and engage viewers, as players love Giannis Antetokounmpo He called in performances to praise players one day and criticize them the next.
According to Steph Curry's mother, Sonia Curry, when she was raising Steph W Seth CurryShe kept her children away from the local newspapers. As she explained on “The Travis Hearn Podcast,” she made sure the family didn't get any newspapers because she didn't want her children to see the back-and-forth coverage of their father.
“When the kids were little and Dell was in the league, we didn't get the newspaper,” Sonia said. “I won't let her into the house.
“You know, one day they're praising their father, the next day they're criticizing him. I thought, 'I'm not going to let my kids experience that at a young age.' It plants the seed that they need that praise or want fame.”
While some fans feel as if the rise of hot takes and debate shows like “First Take” have hurt media coverage of the NBA, it seems that tit-for-tat was prevalent even in the 1980s and 1990s when Steve was a kid.
