Newcastle United booked their place in the FA Cup fourth round after coming from behind to beat Bromley 3-1 at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Magpies were riding high heading into this cup tie, and the Toon Army must have thought they were in for a relaxing afternoon. Newcastle's impressive performance has seen them rise to fifth place in the league Premier League tableThey recently made a huge leap towards the Carabao Cup Final by beating Arsenal 2-0 away from home.
However, Eddie Howe's side were quickly brought back down to earth by the League Two side. He surprised the much-rotated XI in the early stages. Cameron Congreve achieved what Arsenal failed to do in midweek by breaking down Martin Dubravka's defense with a well-taken strike from long range.
It didn't take long Premier League However, the team managed to get back on par, as Lewis Mailey, who has rarely featured this season after returning from a long-term injury, scored Newcastle's equaliser.
The home side were in complete control in the aftermath and should have taken the lead through William Osola straight after Miley's goal. NewcastleBromley's superiority in the remainder of the first half was no surprise as they had 86% of possession, but Bromley were stubborn enough to go into half-time 1-1.
There was no messing around from Howe at the start of the second half, as Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimarães entered the fray, the former calmly dispatching a 12-yard penalty to give Newcastle their first lead in the cup tie three minutes into the second half.
Osula, in a rare outing after his arrival in the summer, added the third goal for the hosts with a wonderful volley, his first with the club. Newcastle's second-half rest allowed Hugh to add 17-year-old Trevan Sanusi to the line-up for his first competitive start, and the Magpies maintained their two-goal advantage without any fuss in the closing stages.
