On Saturday, members of Congress from California toured the ruins Altadena and North Pasadena Because of the Eaton fire that is still burning.
Rep. Judy Chu, whose district includes the communities most affected by the Eaton Fire Los Angeles District, he led members of Congress from California on a tour of devastated neighborhoods and streets.
The Eaton Fire has grown to more than 14,100 acres with 15% containment, Cal Fire reported Saturday night. About 7,000 buildings were burned.

“I was so grateful to my teammates Congress of California “Who were able to drop everything and prove to Los Angeles County and the entire nation that we as Californians have each other’s backs,” Cho wrote in a statement released after the tour.

“Pasadena officials told my colleagues how difficult the rebuilding process is and the tremendous support they need from the federal government to be successful,” Chu wrote. “They also highlighted how many black families, who had found refuge from segregation and redlining in Altadena and parts of Pasadena, had lost all the generational wealth they had successfully built. My colleagues then witnessed streets, neighborhoods, and community institutions completely razed to the ground.”

Chu said she looks forward to working with her colleagues to secure the disaster relief funding needed to recover and rebuild.

She added that she would push for legislation to “prevent disasters like this from happening again.”
“At every level of government, partnership is absolutely essential to successfully respond to natural disasters and provide immediate and long-term relief to those who have lost loved ones or returned to their homes or businesses with nothing left,” Chu wrote. “Fire victims in Southern California will depend on Congress to pass — on a bipartisan basis — emergency disaster relief appropriations to support long-term recovery. … We have a long way to go, but as in every other part of America, Californians deserve disaster relief that “It will give us the ability to rebuild.”
