Manchester City qualified for the fourth round of the FA Cup after defeating its guest, Salford City, 8-0, at the Etihad Stadium.

Salford-born James McAtee secured his first first-team hat-trick as City avoided a major upset in the cup with a strong performance that will be a welcome confidence boost for Pep Guardiola and his players.

Jeremy Doku scored twice, while Jack Grealish, Nico O'Reilly and new signing Devin Mombama completed the rout to continue the Premier League champions' good start into 2025.

Elsewhere, Championship leaders Leeds United beat struggling Harrogate Town in League Two at Elland Road.

The match was scoreless in the first half, but Larji Ramadani headed home shortly before the hour mark to ensure Daniel Farke's side qualified for the next round.

The comprehensive Championship match between Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday ended in a penalty shootout after the teams could not be separated for 120 minutes.

Liam Kitching gave Frank Lampard's side the lead in the 26th minute as they maintained their lead until deep into second-half stoppage time.

However, Anthony Musaba scored Wednesday's equalizer in the 93rd minute to send the match into extra time.

Neither team was able to find a winner during the extra half hour and so the tie was decided on penalties which Coventry won 4-3.
