Crews navigate icy roads, winds and persistent winter weather in restoration efforts;

The company expects to restore power to nearly all affected customers on Saturday

Atlanta, January 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In the wake of Winter Storm Korra, which brought heavy snow, freezing rain and ice to… North Georgia, Georgia Power It has restored power to more than 230,000 customers since the beginning of the storm. As of Saturday morning, fewer than 60,000 customers remained affected. Crews are in the field now and the company expects to have nearly all affected customers with power reconnected today. The company's rapid response to the storm was made possible by the application of new “smart grid” technologies and the quick work of pre-positioned teams that were ready to respond as soon as conditions were safe to do so.

Many areas sustained additional damage overnight from fallen trees and limbs, with the worst affected areas including parts of Alpharetta, Jonesboro and Atlanta. As crews work today, they begin by assessing the damage, an essential part of effective restoration. Damage assessment teams follow repair teams depending on the extent of damage and access to the area. As weather conditions improve, restoration efforts could accelerate, with temperatures expected to barely rise above freezing in many areas on Saturday. Georgia Power He notes that difficult road conditions and the potential for continued snowfall, limbs and trees could slow progress or cause additional damage.
