John Mayer Share an emotional post about losing sentimental items in the middle of Los Angeles wildfires.
The musician, 47, posted a photo of a trans folder His Instagram on Thursday, January 9 and thought about how painful it can be to lose sentimental items and mementos – as thousands who have lost their homes face this harsh reality.
“This is the most valuable thing I own. It is a folder of my father’s photos, spanning his life from when he was a child, teacher, husband, and father. It is the only evidence of his life that will exist over time,” Mayer wrote in the lengthy caption of the post. These are the “documents” I read about people taking them from their homes. When you hear someone say they lost everything in a fire, that's pretty much, if not all, everything.
“Those who say they will be okay still have their folders and albums,” Mayer continued. “Those who are inconsolable have lost them. Behind the terrible loss of life lies the loss of the evidence of life.”
The “Clarity” singer added that he is thinking of those who have suffered this kind of “devastating” loss in the fires.
“I don't do prayers but tonight I'm going to say a prayer for everyone who no longer has these things. It's not about the art and collectibles. It's the pictures, the letters, the separation rings, the glasses, the things we keep to remind us that those we loved were here,” Mayer added. “I hope those people find it.” Who have lost a lot of hope and support from their families and friends. Stay safe, take care of yourselves and each other, and trust that humanity and all that it entails, as hard as it is to see at times, is still alive and well. “This is truly devastating.”
Following the post, the musician confirmed that he did not lose his home in Los Angeles.
“To be clear: I'm safe, and I'm very lucky to still have my place in LA, but keep my documents close by. ❤️,” he wrote in the comments.
The post appears to have resonated with his followers, with many taking to the comments section to agree with Mayer's opinion.
