President Biden made what many considered a “disgusting” joke during his remarks on Twitter Ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles Thursday.
Biden met with top administration officials to discuss the federal response to the Pacific Palisades wildfires that have continued to rage across the county, displacing thousands of Californians and destroying thousands of homes and buildings.
After updating the audience on the federal government's plan to help local officials during the disaster, Biden gave the floor to Vice President Kamala Harris, who hails from California, and made a quick joke.
“Madam Vice President, I know you were directly affected,” Biden said. “That is why you unintentionally fired.”
X users were quickly shocked by the comment and began attacking the president.
“What's wrong with this guy,” exclaimed the redstate clerk Bunshee.
“Is sympathy with you in the room now?” Townhall.com video editor Kevin McMahon wrote.
“Most of the time, @JoeBiden is just a mean, vindictive person (he has been his entire career), but in this case I think he can be blamed on his old age,” Townhall.com columnist Derek Hunter wrote.
Stephen Miller, contributing editor at The Spectator, commented: “Even Kamala at this point is like, 'Are you a serious man?'
“Completely tone deaf,” TikTok's Libs wrote.
“What a jerk,” said conservative commentator Steve Guest.
“Maybe this is not the time to make puns,” said conservative columnist Ben Keogh.

Biden announced during the briefing that the federal government will cover 100% of disaster response costs over the next 180 days.
“This will cover the costs of things like debris and hazardous materials removal, temporary shelters, salaries for first responders, and all safety measures to protect lives and property,” he said. “I want to stress, I've said to the governor and local officials: Spare no expense. We are literally doing everything we can at the federal level.”
Biden has already faced backlash One day earlier during a meeting with California Governor Gavin Newsom and firefighter officials.
After signing the disaster declaration and reiterating his support for the state, Biden took the time to announce the birth of his first grandchild.
“The good news is that as of today I am a great-grandfather,” Biden said.

Biden has also been criticized To joke about a similar situation in 2023 after responding to devastating wildfires that claimed more than 100 lives on Maui.
Before delivering his speech at the site, Biden met with a group of officials, shook hands with them, and stopped in front of a search and rescue dog. While petting the dog, he joked about the shoes the dog was wearing.
“Did you guys catch the shoes here?” Biden seemed to be asking the press watching him. He smiled and said, “This is hot ground, man.”
